Here are some of the top resources I used to better understand my hypothyroidism diagnosis. I also include research articles that I found interesting or helpful.
If you are newly diagnosed with Hypothyroidism or simply digging for more answers about this condition that you’ve lived with for years, you likely are going to turn first to the internet. Here are some websites that I found particularly useful.
Thyroid Pharmacist by Izabella Wentz, PharmD
- One of the best articles from her site discusses the top Thyroid Tests and How to Interpret Them. This is a must read to ensure that your doctor is testing you properly and interpreting the tests correctly.
- Check out her Resources Page for more great info, including a Practitioner Database to help you find a practitioner that will help with your health journey.
I was able to check most of these out from my library. If I enjoyed a book or found it particularly useful, I would buy it (used, usually) so I could take notes in it and reference it often.
Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis: Lifestyle Interventions for Finding and Treating the Root Cause by Izabella Wentz, PharmD
I just purchased this book, but haven’t had a chance to read it yet. I will update this section once I am able to read the book and give my thoughts.
It does come highly reviewed on Amazon and so far Dr. Wentz has the best thyroid information on the internet that I have been able to find.
Hashimoto’s Protocol: A 90-Day Plan for Reversing Thyroid Symptoms and Getting your Life Back by Izabella Wentz, PharmD
I stumbled upon Izabella Wentz’s website a few month’s before reading this book. It was the first book I read by her because it was available at my library at the time. This book gives specific information to improve thyroid symptoms, I have not followed the protocol yet. I am currently working with my own doctor and dietitian to improve my symptoms while on a vegan, plant-based diet. Dr. Wentz’s protocol follows a more “paleo” diet. I did however reference the book to learn more and read about the supplements and foods she suggests.
Medical Medium Thyroid Healing by Anthony William
Ok so I will admit, there is controversy surrounding the Medical Medium and I was very skeptical when I checked out this book. However, I do like gathering as much information as possible and fact checking it.
This was the first book that connected Epstein-Barr Virus with Hypothyroidism for me, something that I was not aware of. I had a bad case of Mono in high school and made me realize that I had been experiencing symptoms from that point forward. I was not diagnosed with Hypothyroidism until about 10 years after having mono in high school.
His protocol is mostly food based with supplements. I figure it couldn’t hurt to give it a try.
